"Atticus was feeble: he was nearly......Our father didnt do anything."(89) Why do Jem and Scout care so much about there father getting old? Atticus is a caring, loving father. Jem and Scout dont seem to appreciate this. They want Atticus to be able to do something cool. Like run fast, or jump high. It seems like Jem and Scout want to be able to brag about their father. When the children finally find out that Atticus used to be known as "Ol' One shot" they were suddenly proud of their father, and wanted to tell all their friends at school. Can someone please tell me why the kids feel they have to brag on their father?

What are you saying about Feeble Atticus?
Because they're kids.
=)
You might not remember, hah, but back before us kids got in fights with each OTHER, we just bragged about how "My dad could beat up your dad!"
They were simpler times. (Laughs)
i honestly dont remember those time...
I'm sure that they hear about all this stuff that other dads do with their kids at school, so I assume that they are just jealous that they can't do any of that cool stuff with their dad, and that they can't brag on him because he doesn't do anything cool.
Maybe it's because all the people in Maycomb are giving the kids crap about Atticus so they want to show people that he can do more than they think, and that he is a good person.
Maybe Atticus is just a lame dad. Maybe he's probably just a workaholic that does nothing but work all day and then read when he gets home. I know some dad's like that. But just because some dads are workaholics that doesn't mean that they're bad people. I'll get off of my ranting here in a sec... Ok, Atticus can shoot rally well,So I guess that I should give him that right? Good ol' one-shot.
I don't know why Scout and Jem are so worried about their fathers age, your right how Atticus is a caring, loving father. BUT WHY ARE THE SO CONCERNED? O... and I dont understand why Scout and Jem call their father by his name, and not "Dad" or "Daddy".
