Miss Maudie
Miss Maudie is a really optomistic person! I thought it was strange when her house burned down and her reaction was "Always wanted a smaller house, Jem Finch. Gives me more yard. Just think, I'll be able to have more room for my azaleas now!" (73) I guese she was just looking for the silver lining, but shouldn't she be a little sad since it just happened?

Yes i agree she should be a little sad or something. you know?
Wow What happens behind closed doors is very similar to this post...Southern women were trained to be strong for their families and hide emotions so i guess it fits if you think about it. Still unusual for sure though.
Miss Maudie is my least favorite character in the book so far.
I guess Miss Maudie just doesn't want to freak the kids out by falling apart about her house. Im sure she is very upset, but she is most likely just trying to act like she isn't affected in the least so that people won't think of her as a weak person. Maybe?
I havn't even read that far in the book and I think that that is sort of funny. Don't get me wrong. Not how her house burnt down but how she thinks that how she wants a smaller house and then she says that now she has more room for her azaleas!!!lol
I love how happy she constantly is!! This should be an example for us... to take something good out of every situation, good or bad!! :)
I think it is great that she has a positive outlook because this is not how people normally react.
I very much agree. I wish that more people were like her too. The world would be such a better place (laughs). If i could grow up to a role model- not that i don't have one- then i'd look up to her. (Laughs quietly to self)
can't you tell I'm a really happy person?
It is a little weird that she wouldn't respond emotionally at all. If MY house burned down, I'd freak out. A lot.
I can appreciate such an optimistic attitude, though...

Enough with the smiley faces.
