First of all i was under the impression that Scout was a dude... oh well. I think shes about 8 because Jem said to Dill that "Scout yonder's been readin' ever since she was born, and she ain't even started to school yet." (Lee 7).
I think that Scout is about 9 or 10 years old. I think that she is this age because it seems like she is out of the loop most of the time like any other kid that age. Also, she talks to kids that are near that age... I agree man_thong even though this has nothing to do with anything but Scout is a boys name
I think Scout is an adult when she tells the story because her style of writing sounds much older than a six year old's would.
Why the heck would you be lead to believe that Scout is a boy??
I have never heard the name Scout before this book . . . unless you are referring to dogs, which has nothing to do with this book or the gender of the charachter.
I was under the impression that in the beggining Scout was six or seven .. if it says she hasn't started school yet, she would not be ten. Right?
I don't know maybe. But i was thinking she was much younger.
Really? I was pretty sure that Scout was about 7 or 8 based on the fact that she is in first and second grade. Although i never considered the fact they might have started school later than they do today. I just thought Scout's sophisticated dialect was there because she was taught about manners and such at a young age.
But it also talks about how most kids fail the first grade several times, so its hard to tell what age that they are. Also, keys, i think that it is a very accurate assumption to think that scout was a boy. When i hear the name scout I automatically think of a boy. It sounds like a boy's name much more then it does a girl's name.
